AMO Atlanta show report from member Steve Thorp, heres what he had to say:

The show was great. I am glad I
Went. I had the opportunity to see some  of the nicest  AMC cars in the south. We arrived
in Atlanta on Thursday, and went to the cruise that night. Not quite as many cars as Ken-
osha but they were every bit as nice. The parking lot at the hotel was a show all to itself.
We met cars from all over the country, and the owners were all willing to show off there
cars. The pink Javelin you mentioned was there and it was in very nice shape as were
all the cars. Most cars were trailer ed  some were driven. Met several people that
had been in Kenosha the year before.

We went to the  parts swap  on Friday ,and I was able to find several parts for my car.
There were a lot of parts to be had,and most of the vendors were very knowledgeable.
The prices were reasonable. I found a pair of side marker reflectors and a pair of running
lights ,and got all four pieces for 20.00 dollars. I actually found all the parts on my shopping
list and didn't have to take out a loan.

We went to the show on Sat,and there quite a few Javelins and AMX. We saw some cars
that were in outstanding shape. You could tell by looking that the owners had put a lot of
effort in their rides. We spent time talking to some owners and got a lot of tips about res-
toring and maintenance. AMC owners are some of the nicest people you will meet. You are
right about the heat,it was very hot,and we did not spend but several hours there before we left.

I now know why they call Atlanta, Hotlanta. All in all we had a good time and saw some

great AMC's. We took pictures and look forward to sharing them at the next cruise we all
go to.

Take care,

Steve Thorp

AMO Atlanta show. The big AMO National AMC show starts this Thursday in Atlanta. I'm leaving on Vacation early Saturday for N Carolina. I am going to try to swing by if I can find a Mall to drop the wife off at! Although I can only stay there for a couple hours, its better than nothing. Hope others are going too.

AMC Forums I just wanted to let you all know theres a new home of the AMC Forum. This is the largest AMC forum on the net and the best place to go for all your AMC questions. THE AMC FORUM

July 13, 2005
Mopar and AMC Show. I got word from Matt they will be doing this show again this year. Last year this show was held on Dec 5th, it will probably be held around the same time but that hasnt been determined yet. I wanted to get the word out early so everyone could be thinking of it. We had a good AMC turnout last year but I really want to improve this year. I also would like to help the Mopar people with the show. I will give more details as I find them out.

I made some small updates on the members page. Please check to see if your information is correct or if I need to add anything.
I moved most of the old news to its own page just to clean up the front page here., link above too. I updated the cruise and shows section. I made a couple changes to the links section

July 8, 2005

Hemmings Muscle car magazine Once again there is an excellent article on AMC's in this months issue about the AMC racing effort and how they competed head-to-head with the big 3!

Hemmings Muscle car magazine I've said this before but I'll say it again. You need to subscribe to this mag. Current issue has a full page article on Shirley Shahan's Drag-on-Lady AMX. Recent issues had a SC/360 article. Nearly every issue has some AMC feature. Great magazine.

Mopar and AMC show The Venice show was great. 9 AMCs were there and we got new members in the club, see the membership page for the additions. Special thanks need to go out to Matt and Kenny and all the Mopar guys for an exceptional show. I want us to try and make this a club event and help out next year. Again, well done.

Check your Email As I said before, I changed my email account but I couldnt export my contacts so I had to retype most of them back in. PLEASE CHECK IF YOU GOT THIS EMAIL.   If you didnt then please send me an email to add you. Having to retype in all the emails, I probably made a few mistakes so please let me know. Also, could the newly added members send me an email too. my NEW email is toxoph@ embarqmail.com (remove the space)

I updated the show section including 2 popular cruises at the Shell Factory and Ritters Ice Cream. I would like to see the Shell Factory cruise be an event our membership attends since it is fairly centrally located to our membership.

Dec 3, 2004
Mopar and AMC show this Sunday, Dec 5th at Woodmere Park in Venice. Time is from 9-3. NO ENTRY FEE, music and Mopar/AMC Trivia, refreshments, awards. For info call Matt at 941-504-1878 or Bob 941-626-3629. Several of us are meeting at the Shell Factory Sun Morning between 7:30 and 8:00am to caravan there. This was a great turnout last year with about 15 AMCs attending. Woodmere Park is off Jacaranda Blvd (exit 193 off I-75). Take Jacaranda to Woodmere Blvd, head north to park. Its more in South Venice. Last year it was at the K-Mart.

Sorry for the short notice and lack of updates. Life gets complicated at times :)

Added Otto and Annette Der and their beautiful Javelin/AMX to the members page

Also note I have a new email. The old email no longer works. see above for new email address

Is it safe to take down the shutters? To say we've had some hurricane activity is an understatement. Charley did a number on us with Frances and Ivan having fun too. Ivan wont go away, now Texas gets to play with it too though much diminished. Jeanne has taken a tour of the Atlantic doing swirlies and now is looking to make landfall somewhere on the east coast. I saw member Chris's Javelin Saturday and thanks to Charley and a neighbors gravel roof, he has a new speckled paint job and a cracked windshield. The end of hurricane season cant come too soon.

Need an AMC fender cover? I just bought a nice one from Ssnake-Oyl Products. Its lightweight and made of foam that protects your fender when working on you AMC. The best part is they have the large AMC logo screened on it with the letters "AMC", really nice looking. They don't even have a picture of it on their web site yet since its so new.  The only bad part is the shipping is really high. The cover is $16 but the shipping is $9. Maybe some club members can go in together to save shipping costs.

The Southeast AMC Regionals are Oct 2nd in Greensboro NC. I will be attending since I will be in NC anyways on vacation. here is some info on the event

John Rosenberg has gone to the dark side. He sold his 70 AMX and is restoring a 72 vette! His punishment is public humiliation on this site! Seriously, sorry to see you go John, keep in touch and let us know how the restore goes.

Kenosha 50th anniversary AMC show report Club members Tony Panaro and Steve Thorp attended the show and had this report. The worst thing about the show was that I wasn't there! :(

The weather was great - no rain. Talk about AMCs -there must have been 500 or more cars plus plenty of vendors at Kennedy Park, right on Lake Michigan. We were amazed to see row after row of AMXs and Javelins all in great condition.  There was also the original Pikes Peak Pace Car at the show.  Steve and I hit the vendors and picked up some parts for our cars.

At our hotel the parking lot was full of AMX 's (that alone was like a car show.) We also went to a "cruise in" at a 60's Drive In Diner and the lot was full of cars, maybe 75 to 100 AMC's .  Also I want to let you know that there were about 20-25 Rebels - all like new ! !
One of the Rebels was a special edition - came from the factory with a 385 hp, 4 speed.
Good time for all, met lots of "car guys" with interesting stories.  Some of the vendors actually worked in the AMC plant.

Heres a link to some pictures: http://www.mattsoldcars.com/gallery/kenosha2004/index.shtml

AMC Books If your like me, you might have a small collection of AMC books. I've probably read each one dozens of times and I still enjoy looking at them. There are several places to buy them that I wanted to let you know of.
Old Milford Press has a huge selection of books. I personally have several of them plus there will be new ones available this fall.
BJ Builds an AMC is a new book that seems to be very good from what I have read. 79 pages and over 150 illustrations. Heres what BJ says: The reason that this book is not called "How to Hot Rod your AMC" is because building a performance engine is like building a cake.  There are as many methods as there are cooks!  I'm not gonna tell you how to build your engine ~  I'm just gonna show you how I build mine.
Then of course, there is always Amazon.com. A never ending source for any books
July 23, 2004
I updated the Cruises and Shows by adding a couple more cruises and shows . I also added some links to web pages that have local cruises on them.

Club events I made an executive decision and decided we will try to do a club gathering at 2 different shows. The first event is the "Mopars with Big Daddy" show this Nov 6-7, 2004. This show is a great event with many AMC in attendance. It would be great fun if we could cruise to the event together. Even hooking up with Matt and the Mopar guys.

The second is the Timeless Traveling Treasures Car Show at Lakes Park in Fort Myers on Feb 26, 2005. Last year at this show we had 6 members attend. Pictures of last years show with AMCs are here. Just be sure to bolt your hoods down! Sorry Chris! :)

July 8, 2004
Another AMC article in the latest Old Cars Price Guide, Muscle Cars. This is a great article on the SCRambler. An owner who has both the A and B paint schemes. I found my copy at Books-a-Million
July 2, 2004
Here's a picture of Kenny's Marlin and Chris's 72 Javelin at the June Port Charlotte cruise.

Notice Chris is proudly flying the AMC flag. I love the Javelin he used as a flag pole! Kenny made a nice AMC display board.

2 additions made to the Sightings and Rumors page including a Pacer!

June 24, 2004
Added a picture of John Rosenbergs 1970 AMX
June 22, 2004
Trans Am Javelin No sooner do I talk about Hemmings when another magazine, Muscle Car Enthusiast, runs an AMC article. They have a wonderful spread on probably the nicest 1970 Trans Am Javelin in existence. They also have a nice article on the newest offerings from Edelbrock for AMCs like heads, headers and fuel injection manifolds.

If anyone collects diecasts, you know Johnny Lightning makes several AMC models including both generation Javelins, Rebels, Matadoors, Hornets, Hudsons, and AMXs. On the shelfs now is a nice green with white stripes 68 Javelin. I just picked up 2 the other day at Toys-R-Us. Seems I cant find the white 72 Jav/AMX which came out recently.

Not this guy! Most of you have my AMC business cards I made up for the club with my name on it. I pass them out to new members and any who wants them, I even leave them on AMC cars I see in parking lots. Everyone I ever talked to was very receptive to the club and talking to me about AMCs, but not this guy! I spotted a blue 63 Rambler American in a parking lot driving towards me. I got out, waved him down, introduced myself while handing him a card. I noticed his Rambler was for sale and mentioned the club contacts may help him sell it. He handed back my card looking very irritated saying "If someone wants to buy it, it will sell". I was a little shell shocked and tried to explain we were a club of other AMC enthusiasts  but by then he sped away. Still dazed, I got back in my truck where my wife, who heard the whole thing said "I've seen him before, hes weird ". Guess we are lucky he gave back my card!

Welcome new member John Rosenberg from Englewood who owns a 70 AMX

June 17, 2004
Hemmings Muscle Car Magazine What!? Your not subscribed to this fine magazine? Then you better because its a great mag with lots of great AMC coverage. The latest issue has a nice article on 68-74 Javelins. I think they still have the 12 mos for $12 offer, a great deal, I did the 24 mos (issues) for $18, even better!

Made small changes to members page and deleted some shows and cruises

June 16, 2004
Mopar/AMC Cruise As feared there was rain however I only encountered it going up and back, it only very lightly sprinkled at the cruise. Even with the threat of rain there were still cars there, about 40-50 total, including 3 AMCs and 8 Mopars. Overall I was very pleased with everything. AMCs in attendance were Chris Daetzs 72 Javelin, MikeMorgenthals 69 AMX and Kenny Andersons 65 Marlin which won Best AMC, congratulations Kenny! I would also like to thank Kenny for the wonderful hat pins and dash plaques he made and brought to the cruise(see below) and passed out to the participants. Kenny made these pins at his own expense for the membership. Every club member will receive one when I see you. Kenny also made a neat display with posters of some AMC cars. Chris proudly displayed his AMC flag hanging appropriately from a Javelin (the kind you throw!), very neat! I had made 2 plaques to give out to the Best Mopar and Best AMC, the plaques were small with a Johnny Lightning diecast of appropriate make mounted with the words Best AMC or Mopar, Mopar/AMC cruise within a Cruise and the date, everyone seemed to like the plaques. Best Mopar went to Bud Noell. I would also like to thank Matt Gause who helped organize the event and handled the Mopar end, the Charlotte cruisers and Tom the DJ. Next time we do this we'll try to pick a better date, maybe this fall when weather is better and the snowbirds return.

Its not too early to be thinking about the Mopars with Big Daddy Show this November. This is always a nice show with many AMCs attending. Maybe we can travel up as a club and fly our club colors while there. Not sure the exact date yet, usually the first weekend in Nov.

I want to welcome a new member, Donny Tidwell in N. Ft. Myers. Donnie owns a 1970 Javelin with a 304. He started it up for me and boy it sounds sweet.

June 8, 2004
The cruise is this Friday and to be honest, I'm not very optimistic about the weather. It seems we are in our normal rain patterns. So I guess we will just have to wait and see. We knew it was risky to plan on that date. If it does rain, we may try to reschedule. As I said, we'll wait and see. So hopefully, the weather will be nice and I'll see you all there.
May 21, 2004
I added another member, Jordan and Vicki from Moore Haven. They own a 70 AMX, white with a shadow mask. The car isnt on the road right now, they are still collecting parts.

June 11th is quickly approaching, I have had about 4 replies on people planning on coming. I talked to the DJ and the President of the Charlotte Cruisers, all are very receptive on our being there. Tom, the DJ, even started announcing the event and will do so at all his events, so the cruise is definitely on! I passed out about 50 flyers so far and listed it and emailed the local AMC and Mopar clubs. So print out the flyer and pass them out! The only other thing left to do is pray for nice weather.

A club pin in our future? Club member Kenny, has a club pin he can make for us.

Looks really nice Kenny! We will discuss this at the June 11th get together.

Anyone interested in poker? There is a poker run on June 13th. Proceeds for a good cause to help pay a patients medical bills. There are 2 start places, one in Naples and one in Ft. Myers, both end at Victory Lane in N. Ft. Myers. Top prize is a $2,500 paint job For more details, click here

May 11, 2004

I added about 5 more photos of members rides including Jeff's awesome tubbed, dual quad 401 Spirit!

So how many of you are going to the AMC/Mopar cruise next month? (see above or below) Please email me and let me know. If you want to see what the cruise is like, there is one this Friday, the 14th, every second Fri.

April 28, 2004

I added a jpg file of a flyer I made for the June 11th Mopar/AMC cruise, Click here to print a flyer I have tried to make it printer friendly in you Internet Explorer browser. Print these out and pass them out at any cruise ins or shows you attend between now and the cruise.

April 26, 2004
Any one need a 401 motor? There is one for sale right here in Cape Coral on Ebay. Starting bid $600, not a bad price if its nice. Link here or search item number 2475716723 He also has the 401 emblems.
April 13, 2004
Big News! I met with (Mr Mopar) Matt to talk about a Mopar/AMC gathering. We decided to start out simple. We are going to have a "Cruise within a Cruise" on June 11, 2004, the second Friday at the Port Charlotte McDonalds. This is a great cruise which has been in existence for many years. There are regularly 70+ cars here, we are hoping to add an additional 40+ Mopar/AMCs. I know this is a north for you Naples people but I think this is a good site for our first gathering. Maybe we can draw some Tampa bay area AMCers. Normal times are 5-9+/- pm but we need to get there as early as possible. Parking can be tight so try to get there early. I will be making up a flyer soon for all to download. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, we will try to add a rain date.

I added a new member, Tom Baumhard who bought Danny's 71 Javelin, a really nice car.

March 26, 2004
Congratulations to Tony! Heres why:
Just wanted to let you know that, on March 13th, I went to the Naples Depot Car Show with my 69 AMX and took 1st place in my class (1960 to 1969) a make up of various makes of vehicles. It was not Peoples Choice but a judged show of three or four judges for each vehicle. Boy was I happy.  Talk to you soon.
Tony Panaro

Congrats Tony!

The April issue of Hemming Muscle Machines has a nice article on a 1971 Hornet SC/360 clone, nice car and nice article, pick up your copy soon

The current issue of Muscle Car Review has a feature on a nice 1972, 401, 4 speed SST Javelin. Another nice car and article.

March 23, 2004
Big Update. We have 5 new members which I have added to our members page That brings our total membership to around 23.

Saturday I went to the Daytona Speedway for the Spring Show. AMC owners gather here to have an "AMC show within a Show". Nearly 40 AMCs, Hudsons, Nashes and Ramblers took part from all around the nation. Many exceptional cars were present. I added some pictures I took on the pictures page Be sure to check them out, examples include a tubbed AMX, a blown Javelin, a 67 Marlin just to name a few. Members in attendance were Dick Psyks 1973 Javelin AMX, Kenneth McCanns AMX and newly added member Scott Rambos beautiful 1970 Javelin.

Sunday I went to the Charlotte County Super Cruise. There were over 400 cars there including 6 AMCs I counted including SWFAMC members Chris daetz's 72 Javelin and Richard Ellsworths Metropolitan. New members included Estas & Dottie Kelly's 1970 Javelin, Kenny Anderson's 1965 Marlin, Delner Kier's 1976 Gremlin and Turner's (sorry, I need your full name) Metropolitan.

Please look over the membership page to see if your information is correct and email me with changes or additions or pictures to add. I also added a couple new pictures there.

March 19, 2004
Added a links section with all my links I have collected over the years, lots of good information there.
March 11, 2004
Added a pictures page with some pics I had already plus the recent Lakes Park show. I still have some photos to add to that.

Added a new banner for our site, It looks a little better than before. I also added some new pictures in the member section.

Be thinking about what you would like our club name to be. I just temporarily gave it the name "Southwest Florida AMC". If there's a better name, email me and we can vote on it. Also, any of you artist out there, start designing a logo for the club, no big hurry on either

A week from this Saturday, March 20, 2004, is the mini AMC show at Daytona Beach in the speedway. I might be going but I wont be taking my Javelin. I just cant afford to trailer it and its not running good enough to drive it. I know Dick Psyk will be bringing his excellent 73 Jav/AMX

March 2, 2004
The Lakes Park show Saturday was great, the weather was nice and there were about 500 cars there. The only bad part about the show was having to listen to the auctioneer for 2 hours over the speaker system. There were 6 AMCs there, my (Tim Walker) 1973 Javelin, Steve Thorp's 1974 Javelin, Chris Daetz's 1972 Javelin, Tony Panaro's 1969 AMX, Karen Maness's 1968 AMX (with Rick driving it) and Fred Cartwright's 1962 Rambler (along with Glendora!).

None of us won awards but the hard luck award has to go to Chris when he lost his hood on I-75 doing 70mph! Evidently the fiberglass at the hood latch gave way letting the hood fly up and ripping the glass at the hinges, blowing over the Javelin and narrowly missing the car behind him! Chris did go back to retrieve his hood chrome but left the shattered hulk on the side of the road. Chris took it all very well, (I would have been bawling!), in fact this will allow him to get a factory cowl hood rather than the all fiberglass one he had.

We took lots of pictures and as soon as I get them developed, I'll post them. If Steve has some, feel free to email them to me.

I want to welcome our newest member, Don Magnus. He owns a 1969 American with a SCRambler B scheme paint job. This was the car formally owned by Bernie. Don and I talked at the show and he really wants to fix the car up, welcome Don!

February 26, 2004
I added the members page, link above. I also added a fun area called Sightings & Rumors, basically this is when we spot or see an AMC and we dont know who owns it, click on it and you'll see.

Looks like there may be as many as 6 AMCs at the Lakes Park Show this Saturday. Try to make it with or without your car.

February 24, 2004
The launch of this web site! For now its just something quick I threw together, I'll refine it in upcoming months. Below is some news you may enjoy, some I had sent out in emails

Hemmings Muscle Machines has a wonderful article on 71-74 Javelin/AMXs along with an article on the 57 Rambler Rebel. There is also a picture of the little known AMC powered Indy car. The current issue is March 2004. Most places carry it. I found mine at Books-a-million. Hemmings Muscle Machines has featured an AMC in every one of its 6 issues, well worth subscribing to and at only $12 a year, a great value. Past articles include the SCRambler, The Machine, 304 Gremlin to name a few. https://www.hemmings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/subscribe.HMMsub

Also, the current March issue of Hot Rod has an excellent buildup of the AMC 390 which applies to 360s and 401s too. 541 hp isn't bad! Well worth getting.

Mark your calendars for the Daytona Spring show at the Daytona Speedway on March 19-21. Saturday, the 20th, is the AMC show within a show. Last year there were about 33 AMC cars there, a low attendance since rain kept most away. Link here;http://www.daytonabeachcarshows.com/sclubs.html

If you want to find the best AMC forum on the internet, go here;http://www.amcforum.net/
I post here all the time, I'm FL_Javelin. The information you can find here is invaluable.
