BWUHAAHAAHAAAAAA.... I WIN!
Some of you may have noticed me
disappearing for a little while... I was fighting two (symbolic) battles over the last few
days. The first one was against a terrible cold that left me completely useless for
two straight days and continues to nag at me. The other was against the evil
electrons in my computer equipment. But I am victorious! I am able to swallow
real food and breathe through my nose again (yippee) and I also have a new motherboard and
450Mhz processor! (I knew you'd be excited to hear about this) I'm
still reinstalling all my software (damn windows don't like being transplanted to a whole
new body like a kidney or something), but I should be totally finished in about another
day. HA HA HA NO LONGER will the evil Lag Monster be able to kill me as I wait
for the damn map to redraw. I will be as quick and nimble as that guy with the
candle thingie. I AM INVINCIBLE!!! OW... cough cough
I'll be testing out my new stuff over the next few
days against whoever shows up online.... so step right up! Oh and I had two people
write to me about 3TeamCTF. Both of them said they downloaded it but nothing about
playing it. The maps all seemed pretty big and cpu-consuming so I'll be trying some
3TCTF as well. ciao!

Crew in Action...
Last night we had our practice with 6e9
on the server. We didn't have many guys show up but that was to be expected due to the
time of year. Jobujo and Marv were both there with me. Also I think Freezer showed up
later on as well. 6e9 had around 5-7 guys coming in and out. We had a good time. I was
doing some major sniper action on them on the Urban2 map, hehe.
Anyway we are planning on having a much
more...organized practice on our next night. This will be 2 weeks from now. So not next
Tuesday but the one after that. (1/12/99 to be exact). I updated our practice list above.

*CTF
practice cancelled
I got word from Gator that the practice
for tonight was cancelled by the IWG clan. Basically the holidays are still going on and
it is a little to much to expect people to show up. So feel free to play on our CTF server
tonight if you want. I know that Gator and Toxoph are probably both planning on being on
there tonight. - Jazzman-X-[11:00 am EST]
Daily Jazz...
I hope all of you had a good X-mas.
Mine was great. I got plenty of cool stuff. Several DVD movies, clothes, etc. I got some
gift certificates and money also. With those I went and bought the new game
"Starseige: Tribes" yesterday.
All I can say is very cool. Gator, you should check
this out. It has several versions of online multiplayer including a CTF variant. The game
is very cool. The big thing about it is there is like zero lag!! You heard me right. I
didn't believe it either when I heard it from others but after playing for 3 hours last
night I can truly say this game has mastered the internet ping/lag situation. Very
impressive.
This game is also very team oriented. You can have a
team commander that can go to a command window and assign commands, waypoints etc. He can
watch his teammates, control gun turrets, among other things. You have things that require
players to work together like one guy who fires a long range mortar while another sets up
laser aim points at the target. You even have flying crafts that you can travel in to raid
the enemy base and drop off your teammates or attack from the air. You have 3 types of
armor to choose from and a good selection of weapons. If any of you get it let me know so
we can play together. - Jazzman-X-[9:00 am EST]
***AQ2
Practice tonight with 6e9
We have a practice with 6e9 tonight on
our server. The server will be locked down with the same password we have used with them
the last 2 times. I will post it on the members page for WC guys. I am sure Blake or RRyan
will remember it. I will send an email to them here in just a bit. As it says above 9pm
EST. This is an hour later than we had originally planned but today is Toxoph's B-day (All
WC members write him and call him an old fart, hehe). I am going to his house for it
around 630pm so 8pm just would not work for the 2 of us. You know that women thing would
keep us from playing. Should be home and done by 9pm. See you all there. - Jazzman-X-[9:00

New articles for members site coming soon...
I received material from Gator
and....someone else for articles. I will be posting them soon. Anyone else that has some
cool tips, strategies, whatever please send it to me so I can get it up on the site.
Antimatter, lets see those articles you been hyping for a couple months, hehe. Also I
would love to see maybe a one map strategy section from Marv or Jobujo describing how they
play a particular level. Areas to be in, weapons to use for different situations, etc. I
am going to write one on cliff and should have it up soon. Just send me articles as a .txt
or MS Word file attached to an email and I will convert it to the site for you. - Jazzman-X-[10:00

AQ2 Classic map of the week...
As some of you know I have decided to
run 1 classic map a week on the Action Quake server. This is of the maps that were out in
the beginning that captured the some of that original feeling of AQ2. Last weeks map was
hostage2. This week the selection is locknload. You can get it here. This file is actually the classic maps of
locknload and Coventry I think. Anyway go pick it up. This is a cool map. I used to love
try to kick guys off the roof of this map.
Any of you WC guys that want to recommend the choice
for next week just send it my way. I know Antimatter was thrilled with Hostage2 last week,
hehe. Let me know what you guys would like to see. - Jazzman-X-[10:00

Action Quake files update
I forgot to mention this as soon as it
happened but the MapDepot guys fixed the TeamPack file so all 3 map packs are working now.
They are a little different from the original ones. If you haven't done so
already, you should clean out your Action folder and install all 3 new mappacks so you
have the latest stuff. Well actually you might want to wait until the next version
of the AQ client files comes out and do it all at once, but make sure you make backup
copies of your config.cfg and any other .cfg files before reinstalling AQ. If you're
still using the old client files or mappacks, you may see people running around as
reservoir dogs because the skins have different names now, or you may see different
sections of maps as colored squares. Two maps currently run on our server but not in
the new map packs are the original Cliff,
and Avenue11 which you can
download by clicking on the names.

Action Movies update:
Evil Hong Kong Kung-Fu Legions Petition
For Right To Attack Two At A Time
VICTORIA, HONG KONG--The Red Dragon Legion, a union representing Hong Kong's 22 largest
evil kung-fu goon squads, formally petitioned the Hong Kong action-film industry Monday to
lift its long-term ban on dual-attacking in fights against the forces of good. "We
feel it is both reasonable and fair to permit evil henchmen to pair up, attacking the hero
two at a time," the petition read. The union cited a study which found that from 1989
to 1997, 100 percent of diabolical armies who took on lone heroes in a single-file fashion
were defeated.

Server changes...min ping & max ping
Ok I made a small setting change on our
servers today. I set a min ping of 80 and max ping of 850. I did this after quite a bit of
thought so please think about your reply to me before emailing me with a complaint.
I did this because of a particular thing that happen
a few nights ago. Two players from the {RAV} clan were on the AQ server. They had pings in
the 70's. They were on the same team and only had 4 people on their team vs. 7 on the
other. They were still winning. Every time I got killed it was by the LPB players. My ping
was like 200-220 so it was not that bad. Same with everyone on our team. It got to the
point of being ridiculous. This kind of thing can take all the fun out of playing for the
normal player.
Same thing as when we had the CTF practice on the
IWG server. They had one guy in the 30's and another in the 60's to 70's, and yet another
(I believe Biff) in the 80's. All of the other players were in the 120's to 300's. This
made it very frustrating and unfair. (Note: IWG I know this is not your fault, please do
not confuse this as me being mad at you guys.)
The deal is I want regular modem players and even
cable modem players to have a good time. Those {RAV} guys..I know them. They all work at
some big media firm in South Carolina and have a T3 in their office. They all come on our
server around lunch time and just wail on all the regular players. I like them but that
has got to stop. They need to just play on their LAN or something.
The good thing on these settings is the max ping
one. This way if someone is really lagging out once they get up to 850 it kicks them. Most
the time when a normal modem player lags for a few seconds they go up around 500-700 so
hopefully by me making it 850 it won't kick you just for a quick lag. If you get up to 850
that usually means your going down for the count. Let me know if any of you have
problems.
Any feedback about this is welcome. I would love to
hear any other solutions or comments.

WC, Holidays, & Year in Review
First of all I want to wish a Merry
Christmas to all of you. We have had a great year in WC and I look forward to another
great year in '99 as well. We have added some excellent members this year and our core
group has stayed strong. WC is going on 3 years old. This clan was built on the goals of
making friends and having fun. I am very proud of how well we have achieved those goals
set forth so long ago. Here is a few things we achieved this year:
- Went from having 1 server to 2. (CTF and AQ2
Teamplay)
- Played 7 matches in '98 compared to none in
'97.(played scrimmages no "matches") All 7 of these took place in second half of
the year.
- Played in AQ tournament and got to final 10 of 48
clans.
- Made alliances with IWG and 6e9 to have other clans
to practice with.
- Moved main WC site under NeoReality and expanded on
it immensely. Regular updates made almost daily through entire year.
- Now have 3 WC sites. One of which is a very
informative members only site. Another is a secondary members created site.
- Went from around 10 members in '97 to 20 in
'98. (we are looking to get to about 25 and then pull the plug)
- Had our first "LAN BLAST 1" WC LAN party.
Was a great success and we look to having more in '99.
- Had our first WC party (Hooters) with several members
showing up.
As you can see we accomplished a lot in '98. We had
a small bump a few months ago but that has been worked out some (although we are still
working at it). We have some huge things coming in '99. There are some great new games
coming out, new tournaments starting, and we have several alliances set up with other
clans to get more practices etc. going on.
There will also be a pretty big and cool new
announcement coming from The NeoReality guys in early '99. We won't give any details out
now but it will be cool.
Over the next week we will not really be planning
anything. It is the holidays and we know everyone has things going on. So no practices or
matches this week at all. The servers will be up and I will check them to restart as often
as I can. Everyone just have fun and be careful. We
are looking at next week on Tuesday having a Action Quake Teamplay practice with 6e9 on
our server. Then on Wednesday I think we have a CTF practice with IWG on their server. Then the rest of that week will be nothing due to the New
Year coming later in the week. So....again happy holidays to you all and if you have any
questions let me know. - Jazzman-X-[10:10 am EST]
Daily Jazz...
That news about TeamFortress II is not
real surprising. Everyone knew it was gonna be a separate product but most thought it
would be like a $19.99-$24.99 type add-on product. Now they just spend and extra month
adding some stuff and make it install the HL engine stuff in a different folder and they
can charge us $49.99 for it. Don't you just love the marketing guys at these companies?
Hehe.
Well I will buy it regardless. The game looks to be
the ultimate FPS for online team play. I always liked the idea of different character
classes because it allows you to play to the style that you feel best suits your talents.
Everyone should read the article FG linked below. I am sure you will all be as hyped up
about it as we are. The mission types just sound too damn cool. - Jazzman-X-[10:10

TeamFortress update
Not really a clan related thing, but
still interesting... Valve, (makers of Half-Life) acquired the crew that made the
original TeamFortress mod for Quake a few months ago with the intent of making TeamFortress II a
commercial mod for Half-Life. But as of yesterday (I think) Valve is saying that TeamFortress II
will instead be a full game by itself, based on the Half-Life engine. Read
that: TeamFortress II will be a full-priced game, separate from Half-Life. So while
they're basically shooting Half-Life in the foot as far as online multiplayer goes,
they'll probably make up for it with TeamFortress sales. Here is a link to a good Gamecenter
Interview with Valve Guys that gives a lot of details about what TF2 will be and why
they did it. After reading that article I'm thinking that this game will be the best
1st person shooter game ever made so far. It really takes on the best aspects of
team play with a pretty good graphics engine. But of course we'll have to wait and
see what Q3: Arena has to offer...

another thing
I did download the 3 team CTF mod a
couple weeks ago and walked through the first couple maps by myself. The whole
concept seems really cool, but I haven't gotten a chance to play it online yet.
Anyone out there tried it yet? Is it worth considering to upgrade to 3TCTF status as
"old skool" CTF continues to grow stale, or is regular old CTF still the best
there is? Lemme know.
All you non-clan members can write me too. I know you're reading this stuff so you
might as well become involved...
