Hurricane Georges
misses WC, New Orleans to die
Well this killer hurricane that was
supposed to rip through our area gave us a about a whole day of mild thunderstorms... They
lasted longer than a normal thunderstorm would, but the actual winds that hit us were very
weak. I was quite disappointed. There should have been at least a couple
million dollars in damage. The entire southern half of our state covered our houses
with plywood and bought gallons of water and canned crap. The network TV stations
weather people appointed themselves GOD status as they interrupted every single prime-time
television show to tell us
"IMPORTANT HURRICANE NEWS UPDATE:
THE HURRICANE IS NOW 3 MILES CLOSER TO US THAN IT WAS DURING THE LAST IMPORTANT
HURRICANE NEWS UPDATE. THIS MEANS IT HAS ONLY 350 MORE MILES TO GO BEFORE WE
ACTUALLY SEE RAIN FROM IT. GO OUT AND BUY ENOUGH BATTERIES AND CANNED CRAP TO
SURVIVE FOR THE NEXT TWENTY YEARS, AND THEN COME BACK AND WATCH YOUR TV AND WAIT FOR YOUR
NEXT COMMAND."
Even after it had gone around us, and it was quite
obvious to even non-hurricane "experts" that it was not going to hit us, they
STILL interrupted the shows to tell us that "it's better to be safe than sorry, so
stay in your houses and keep watching our station to find out what happens."
You never know, this 200 mile wide thing that has been travelling on a
basically straight path for the last week JUST MIGHT do a 360 and slam us anyway... uh
huh.

LAN Quake and other isolationist activities
As you know, we've been locked away
from the outer Quake world by our friendly network admins. Experiencing
Quake-withdrawal symptoms, I began a secret OPs mission to set up an internal Quake
network in our dorms. I set up Q2 on one roommates computer and downloaded all the
patches and mods to go with it. I then snuck into ZapMan's room while he was out
"studying" with some chicks and installed Q2 on his computer as well. The
next night my roommate and I convinced him to join us in a Quake match, so we set up an
Action Quake server on ZapMan's computer and played against each other. I tried it
on mine first, but it was WAY too choppy for me to play on it. ZapMan's new P2-400
w/256Mb of RAM was able to handle it quite well though.
Playing like this, Action Quake was actually quite
cool. We could yell obscenities down the short hallway to each other whenever we got
killed, and laugh whenever someone got killed in a cool way. The pings were pretty
good, but I think Action Quake lags a little more than regular, so it was like playing on
a good and very smooth modem connection. There are only a couple maps that are good
for 3 players though. On the bigger maps you spend 10 minutes looking for someone to
kill. So hopefully we'll find some other people who have Q2 or else keep looking for
a way to connect to the outside world.
One last thing... It took only 3 months, but
there is a new Pic of the Week. This
mod looks pretty cool, and I'll be sure to put another link up when it's finished.

Match and Hurricane stuff...
Ok a real quick update here.
First of all the match the other night with the
Cajun Mafia was a great success. Not only did we have a good match and win but it was nice
to get so many of our guys together to get back to playing as a team. We did very well. I
was a little late so I may have missed a round but the 2 rounds I was there we won 8-1 and
then 8-0. I took some pics and will have more of a write up posted soon. I do also want to
say though that I have a lot of respect for the CM clan. They did not whine once the whole
time and they never quit. It was just very obvious they have not played CTF as a group
very much. With some practice I am sure they will be a lot better in the future. They did
very well fighting but just didn't seem to set up good defense at any time.
Second, Hurricane Georges has spared us here in Ft.
Myers. It has missed us and continues up into the GOM. We only got some rain and a little
wind. So, you should start seeing some of the WC guys down here start wondering back
online soon.

Other server news...
Ok I think I already have the server
all set up for the match tonight. Anyone who can try it out. For those of you who play on
the Action Server and come by here for news...the Action Quake server will be down
tonight. We are having a match on another server and want all the bandwidth available for
that server and the match. Thanks.

Match Tonight.
Ok so here is the deal... we have a
scrimmage match tonight. There is also one other somewhat related side note going on. As
all of you in Florida are aware of I am sure we have a Hurricane threatening to come drive
right up our ass. So... depending what gets reported through the day and early evening
some people may not make the match due to getting prepared for the storm. This is fine for
anyone who needs to. I still plan on being there (Unless my wife drives me insane).
Here is info regarding the match as received from
Gator:
"Match today Weds. 23rd at 9PM EST with cajun mafia. They have 7 who are supposed
to show. We have 8 0r maybe 9 depending on hirudin and Canadian. We are going to cycle
thru McKinleys and the Stronghold (map 1 and 2) and not play the other 3. I think these
guys want to play a few rounds of this so everyone should get plenty of opportunity to
play. I do not think they are the type to cut and run like last matches. Really just a
scrimmage as they are new at ctf. “
By the way if server is performing adequately all the levels will be on our server.

Server crashes fixed?
Ok I did some more work on the server
and I think I got the problem. On the action Quake server I think I had a bad pak file in
the directory that did not need to be there. Also for both servers I think the problem was
HD space was low. I didn't realize that....well let me make a long story short...I freed
up like 200 megs and now the servers seem fine. The action quake server has been running
all day (packed the whole time) and has not crashed yet. So.....hopefully everything
should be ok now. Gotta keep tabs on the downloads from now on, hehe. Jazzman-X 9:29am EST
Server crashes...
The Action Server crashed last night. I
really cant understand what is going on. One runs fine for a day or 2 while the other
crashes, then they swap. It is very aggravating. I am going to go though everything and
see if I can make some changes. I am also going to try and free up some more space on this
system which may be part of the problem. This server only has like 220 of free HD space.
Use to be fine with that though but I will try to free up more. Jazzman-X 9:29am EST
Jazzman's PC woes...
Well I think I have finally decided I
hate PC's. I really feel sometimes that they know how to piss you off and try to do it on
a regular basis. As some of you know I just ordered a new fancy P2 400 system a while
back. Guess what...I still don't have it yet. I ordered it like a month ago!! Oh well, the
good news is it should be here today. But here is the thing I am talking about, my current
system at home decided to crap its power supply yesterday when I got home. Its like it
knows the new computer was coming and just wanted to fuck with me. DAMMIT!!! So that's why
the server stayed crashed last night was because I had no computer at home working. So I
watched TV all night, I forgot how much that sucks sometimes, I ended up putting in an old
favorite movie of mine (Longest Yard) and fell asleep early. Oh well, at least I got a new
power supply (thanks Loren) this morning and already have my old system up and running
again for those of you wondering.

WC in CTF Ring..
Well hopefully everything went well
with our addition to the Quake 2
CTF Clan Ring. If not I am sure I'll hear about it..Now that this is set

ICQ him to let him know what is going on with the scrimmage.

Freezer on Action Quake...
Ok for those of you sick of hearing
about this..I downloaded all the files (would be nice if some people learned how to create
a website ) and installed them and went to play on our Jazzman-X's Action Quake server
(what happened to Gamer's Digest) and low and behold..the server was down..(damn gremlins)
yes we are still haunted by the wonderful server crashing bugs how nice..one day it's the
Lithium server the next it's the Action Quake one..well I guess I'll wait until tomorrow
to try to play again.. - Freezer

WC..."What the hell is
going on?"
Ok, here is the deal. With all these
emails flying around a few of you have been wondering what's up with the clan. Here is
what is going on... With the help of Gator we are trying to whip this clan into shape and
start making things happen again and start having some clan fun again. The WC kinda went
south there for a few weeks and Gator has stepped up to try and get it going again. Here
is the basic deal on our clan leadership.... Me and Freezer are still the big bosses.
There just is no way it can be otherwise. We started it, I run the server at my work and
the site is on my company website. We have to retain the overall reins in one way or
another. However, Gator is now a clan leader also. This may be confusing but don't
really worry about it. We are all friends so it doesn't really matter but basically here
is what each of us is responsible for:
Freezer: Everything. Hehe, he just has to keep tabs
on everything.
Jazzman-X: Server issues, web site issues.
Gator: Match setups, practice organization and setups.
**- all 3 of us are the voting board for any clan decisions.
Now this is not set in stone but just a basic
outline of what we are trying to do. I am really happy that Gator has stepped forward to

Match Set!!!
Gator has already got us a match set
up. Here is a quote from his email regarding it for those of you who did not receive it:

He also wants you to email him about the position
you feel you are best at:

Action Quake server upgrade...
Version 1.0 is out for Action Quake. It fixes several
bugs and adds several new cool features. One being a camera tracking mode for when
your dead in teamplay and watching. They also added RADIO sound stuff like in
Viking. I don't have all the details on it yet or how to change it but I will look into it

Lithium Server crashed again..
The server crashed again yesterday. I
am going to totally reinstall it today and see if that fixes it. I also noticed the server
was running real low on disk space so I will clear it up today and maybe that will help

Ok call me pig headed or something but
I still think Action Quake requires you to have a sub hundred ping or a GREAT connection
to the internet to play it..If you are ever on the server watch and see who is always on
top..the guy with the lower ping..unless you get lucky like I once did in there and won
camping with the sniper rifle and the silencer.
Ok that said here is the first matter of business..I NEED ALL WC MEMBERS WHO DO NOT GET AN EMAIL FROM ME TO EMAIL ME. I removed MS office from my HD and it took out my
outlook '98 address book..who the hell knew that would happen..DAMN Microslut.
NEXT: I am going to sign up this clan on a Clan ring and I don't give a crap or a
rats ass who doesn't like this..we do NOTHING as a clan, and we are going to start or I am
going to start replacing members..PERIOD.. I think its time we all got over the EXO
incident and start playing again..Yes I know real life has gotten a hold of a few of you
but ALL I ask is an hour or two a WEEK not a DAY a WEEK for some fun. This clan was
founded on FUN and the EXO incident blew up all the fun that was in the clan. So be
prepared to have fun again. Yes I understand Kyle and Martin's problem and yes they
go to a college where the IT department is run by screw heads who have
nothing but paranoia in their heads by putting a dorm behind a firewall. Geez if
someone wants in bad enough they will find a way no firewall is going to stop them
UNDERSTAND.
Ok so watch for the clan ring stuff..and NO it won't be
all out in the open cluttering up the page and all, geez give me more credit than that, it
will be done very tactfully and in a way that will not hurt anyone's feelings.
Last item of business..yes Jazz a LAN party would kick
ass for us Florida jokers and I think we should move forward on the plan..10 base T cards
are dirt cheap and so is cabling for them.
We need to find a place big
enough for us to kill each other and get drunk...uhh I mean drink milk and eat cookies.. -

Jazz Notes... "Server
Stuff..."
Ok just a few things...
I came in this morning and saw that the Lithium
server was crashed again. Tox told me he was on it with some of you and it seemed ok but
then he saw it was crashed on Sunday. Seems there still is some kindof problem with it.
Also I am still waiting for the new 1.0 release of the Action Quake mod. The .99 version
has just a few little bugs left that they need to squish. One is the annoying map rotation
bug(it gets to last map on list and then shuts down instead of going back to first map).
The action quake server is running in Teamplay mode
which is very cool. For any of you that haven't tried it you should. I understand that
like one or two of you say you don't like Action Quake but I think you may be being a
little pig headed. You have to play Action Quake for awhile to appreciate it. You also
have to actually read the docs with it to know all the binds because they are very
important. If you just tried an old version of it one time for a few minutes and were
getting killed a lot and decided you didn't like it, I understand why. Give it another
try.
You don't have to hate one mod or another just like
you can like Pepsi and Coke. I like CTF, Action, Jail Break, Rocket Arena and just
plain old DeathMatch. I will say I didn't like Loki's Minion too much because of the
ludicrous download and also the maps just seemed to damn big. I mean some of those maps it
was like a 10 minute walk with the flag to get back to your base and fuckers would hide
with the flag on some of those maps and you would never find them. Plus guys totally
abused the radio stuff on it.
Even if you didn't like the single player version of
AQ you should like the Teamplay mode. It is much more involving kinda like capture the
flag because teams that get organized make a difference in AQ like CTF. It really is kinda
like a combination of CTF and Rocket Arena with realistic weapons. Anyway I really urge
you guys to try it out. We could have a lot more matches probably with some other AQ clans
or just guys that are packed on the server all of the time. The CTF scene has slowed down
some lately(you can tell by the attendance on our server most of the time and also by how
many matches and challenges we have had lately) so this could be a cool team alternative

Jazz Notes... "Server
Configs"
Ok here is some of the stuff that has
been going on with the servers. First of all here are the changes I have made to the 2
servers I am running:
- I upgraded the server to 3.19, so get it if you
haven't already.
- I have the WC Lithium server (.66) running the
Lithium 1.21 now.
- The Action server (.80) is running v.99 with the
directors map pak.
The reason the Lith server was down was because it
kept crashing. Hopefully it will be ok with this latest version. Everyone try to test it
out. I'm sorry I am not on the CTF server that much, I am just a total Action Quake
burnout and am on the Action server most of the time if I get a spare minute to play. I
know that there is a CTF map pak out there or something and I will look into it. So, all
of you can stop emailing me about it. Maybe Freezer may put it up to a vote or something
if everyone wants it. We will see.
I want to plan a Lan/multi-pc party sometime in the
future for the Florida clan members. If anyone has ideas on this let me know.- Jazzman-X 8:41am EST
